The India national cricket team is preparing to make changes to its game plan for its big T20 World Cup 2026 match against Pakistan in Colombo on February 15. They are likely to avoid playing careless, over-aggressive cricket and play smart, calm and according to the conditions.
India’s intense bowling session sends a strong message
There was a clear indication of this change in India’s training session at the Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium on Tuesday (February 10) evening. According to a Times of India report, the Indian fast bowlers and spinners practiced on two different nets and bowled with full speed and intensity for almost two hours.
It is rare to have such a tough bowling session in the middle of a long tournament, where players usually conserve energy. Only Abhishek Sharma missed training as he is still recovering from a stomach problem. This preparation was not just for their next T20 World Cup 2026 match against Namibia on February 12.

Conditions in Colombo force a rethink
The Indian team knows the conditions in Colombo, but they will have to adjust to the new pitches, while Pakistan has been practicing there for the last two weeks. So far in the tournament, most of the pitches have been slow and have not allowed big scores at this venue.
As India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate admitted, Colombo’s R. The pitch at the Premadasa Stadium is expected to be slow, making aggressive batting risky.
Because of this and how indiscriminate aggression backfired against the United States, the coach revealed that the Men in Blue plan to slow things down with the bat. He said the focus will be on timing, technique and building partnerships for the match against Pakistan.
Ryan ten Doeschate reveals India’s strategic changes ahead of clash with Pakistan
Ryan ten Doeschate said, “We understand the emotions and the different politics between the two countries. But I think it’s really important for us to focus on the cricket side of things.
It will be a challenge to go to Colombo, where Pakistan has been deployed for the last two weeks. We are fully focused on showing our best game next week. Considering how the pitches have performed in the first five or six days of the tournament, there may be a slight modification in the strategy and how we go about it.

Ryan ten Doeschate demands major improvement from bowlers after USA match
The bowlers are also under scrutiny, as the Indian assistant coach feels that the bowling unit did not perform at its best against the US. Therefore, they are expected to have better control, better planning and disciplined bowling in the tournament. With a strong bowling attack, he suggested to the batsmen that they do not need to take unnecessary risks.
Doeschate signed off by saying, “Having world-class bowlers at our disposal gives the batsmen the freedom to make mistakes in this format. If you are shooting for 250 all the time, you will make mistakes. But we need to react to the conditions as well.”
