The ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 began at the imminent moment of winter and early spring. During the early stages of the tournament, evening games were a constant threat due to dew. Gradually, as winter departed from the country, the temperature started rising.
Still, the possibility of dew cannot be ruled out in the evening. India’s second Super 8 match against Zimbabwe is scheduled to start on February 26 at 7 PM in Chennai. Due to the timing of the match, the match organizers are taking precautionary measures to keep the competition away from the dew factor.
Tamil Nadu Cricket Association introduces ‘Dew Cure’ ahead of India vs Zimbabwe match in Chennai
The match between the two teams is expected to be played in similar conditions at MA Chidambaram due to moisture being prevented on the ground. Due to the humidity in the evening, the other team batting in the second innings often gets an extra edge over the bowling side.
According to media reports, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) has a solution to drop the fairing factor. TNCA had reportedly imported ‘Dew Cure’, a chemical from the United States, to keep the ground dew free. This chemical is frequently used at Major League Baseball venues, and it works effectively.
Groundsmen prepare a solution, mixing imported chemicals and water, and spray it on the outfield before match day. The same process is expected to happen on Thursday also.
“Once the dew is sprayed, it ensures that there is no moisture on the grass leaves. As soon as it gets wet, it will be absorbed and the grass leaves will dry up,” sources told The Indian Express ahead of the India vs Zimbabwe match.
It is being told that Team India is satisfied with the solution.
Media reports claimed that he was happy with the method, as he held his training sessions in Chepauk on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
Reportedly the dew-free ground is making the team satisfied before winning this match. It is also believed that BCCI can use this solution in the semi-finals and finals also. However, an official statement is yet to come in this regard.
This match is a must win for the Men in Blue
The Suryakumar Yadav-led side’s T20 World Cup 2026 hopes suffered a blow as they fell on points against South Africa in Ahmedabad on February 22. In Super 8, each team is scheduled to play 3 matches each. India need to win two matches in the stage, and it will be necessary for the Men in Blue brigade to win both the games.
In Chennai, they will face Zimbabwe, the team which had displayed high-class cricket against Australia and Sri Lanka, got a reality check against the West Indies. Both teams will try to score two important points tonight to keep their chances of making the semi-finals alive. A few free kicks can make the match more interesting.
