Kolkata has been converted into a high-security zone ahead of the first Test between India and South Africa, which is scheduled to begin on November 14 at the iconic Eden Gardens. The decision to tighten security comes after a tragic car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday, November 10, which left 13 people dead and more than 20 injured.
After the Red Fort explosion, security has been increased in major cities including Kolkata. Both India and South Africa have already reached Kolkata and Kolkata Police has taken the responsibility of ensuring complete security for both the teams for the opening match of the two-match Test series at the Eden Gardens.

Police personnel will maintain 24-hour vigil, additional forces will be deployed at the main entry gates and surrounding areas.
Both the teams are being monitored by special convoys during the journey. Sources also said that Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir’s planned visit to Kalighat temple may be postponed due to the current security situation after the Delhi blasts.
