India vs Pakistan gets green signal, PCB faces threat of $38 million lawsuit from broadcasters

Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2026 plans are surrounded by confusion and pressure, but now things are becoming clear. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has seriously discussed the idea of a complete boycott of the tournament, and even considered skipping the much-awaited clash against India, but both ideas now look very unlikely.

Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2026 plans in confusion

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is still waiting for the final decision from the government, which is expected to come by Friday or Monday. During internal talks, the PCB had considered some bold and shocking moves if Pakistan decided to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026.

One option was to withdraw from the group match against India in Colombo on 15 February as a gesture of support for Bangladesh, which was kicked out of the tournament after refusing to play its matches on the co-host nation’s soil citing security concerns.

Bold options explored by PCB, but risky

Other ideas include wearing black armbands in every match of the T20 World Cup 2026 and dedicating any victory in the tournament to Bangladesh cricket fans. But as RevSportz reports, these plans have run into major problems.

Strict action will be taken by ICC on complete boycott. Pakistan may face suspension from bilateral cricket, foreign players may not be allowed to play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), and the Men in Green may even be thrown out of the Asia Cup.

$38 million at risk

India not playing the match brings an even bigger financial risk for the Pakistan Cricket Board. Broadcasters have invested heavily in that single game with advertising, sponsorships and special shows built around it, so if Pakistan pulls out of the tie against India, the PCB could face a legal crisis worth around US$38 million.

“From the broadcaster’s perspective, approximately $38 million is directly tied to that game through advertising slots, branded shows and sponsorship integration,” the report said.

On Monday, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi met Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and explained the entire situation. All options were discussed, but the message was clear that Pakistan has very limited options. A final announcement on Pakistan’s participation is expected this week.

Green signal for Pakistan! High-voltage clash confirmed against India in T20 World Cup 2026

Meanwhile, the Pakistan government has reportedly given the green signal for Pakistan to play the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 match against India in Colombo. This decision came after an important meeting between PCB Chairman and Prime Minister Sharif in Islamabad on Monday.

Earlier, Naqvi had said that the final decision on Pakistan’s participation would be announced by Friday or Monday. But sources have confirmed that Pakistan will definitely take part in the high-profile encounter against India, but it remains to be seen whether the ICC approves their three moves.

“Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi met Prime Minister Mohsin Naqvi and briefed the Prime Minister in detail about the current situation regarding the ICC T20 World Cup and the Bangladesh Cricket Board,” IANS quoted a PCB source as saying.
