The Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 16 -member team for the upcoming five -match T20I series against Australia. Middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav has been retained as captain in the format despite his poor outing this year, including the recently concluded Asia Cup 2025.

India will start the upcoming tour of Australia with an ODI series of three matches starting from October 19. Perth, Adelaide and Sydney will host matches. The limited-over action will continue with a five-match T20I series from 29 October to 8 November.

The matches are being closely watched as important preparations for the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, which is now months away. Both teams will use the series to fix their squads and strategies ahead of the global tournament.

BCCI announces India’s T20I squad for Australia Tour

India retained Suryakumar Yadav as captain for the T20I series against Australia, with Shubman Gill as a vice-captain. All -rounder Hardik Pandya, who missed the Asia Cup final due to a quadrise injury, has been rested, and Nitish Kumar Reddy has been included in the squad.

“(Hardik) Australia will not fit for the series due to injuries taken before the final for the Australia series. He will have to undergo a rehabilitation at the Center of Excellence (COE) and only then we will know,” the chief selector, “said Ajit Aggarkar.

India has made only one change in the squad which lifted the 2025 Asia Cup and added spin-bouling all-rounder Washington Sundar.

The spin department now includes Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakarwarthi, Exer Patel and Sundar. Jasprit Bumrah will lead the speed attack with the support of Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana, while Shivam Dubey and Nitish Kumar Reddy provide additional balance as all-rounders.

India and Australia will meet for the first time after their 2024 T20 World Cup struggle in Gros Islet, where men won 24 runs in Blue. His last bilateral series came to the Indian land in late 2023, with the hosts dominating 4–1.

India also won their last T20I tour of Australia in 2020, winning the series 2–1. Since the beginning of 2024, they have been almost invincible in the smallest format.

Suryakumar Yadav took over as a full -time captain after Rohit Sharma moved away from T20I, the team won all six bilateral series under their leadership, including an unbeaten run for the Asia Cup 2025 title.

Overall, India won 35 wins in 38 T20Is during this period, with the only loss against Zimbabwe, South Africa and England. He has strengthened his place as the most consistent T20I side in world cricket.
