Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out after suffering a shocking injury during the third and final ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney on October 25. Shreyas Iyer hurt himself while moving forward for a difficult catch to dismiss Alex Carey off the bowling of Harshit Rana.
Although the India ODI vice-captain completed the catch brilliantly, he soon collapsed in pain and was taken off the field. Later his condition deteriorated and he was immediately taken to a Sydney hospital.

Medical scans confirmed a ruptured spleen and damage to his rib cage, causing internal bleeding. This all happened due to an awkward fall. Now, there is a fresh update on Mumbaikar.

As per Cricbuzz report, Shreyas Iyer underwent surgery on Tuesday (October 28) for a spleen injury. The surgery went smoothly and Iyer has now fully recovered. The 30-year-old cricketer’s condition remains stable and he is out of the ICU.
However, the Indian vice-captain has been advised to take rest for about five to seven days before resuming any physical activity. The report reads, “We can confirm that Shreyas Iyer recently underwent surgery and has since made a full recovery. The surgery was apparently a minor procedure, but it will require Iyer to rest for at least five more days, possibly up to a week.”
Dr. Rizwan Khan keeps an eye on Shreyas Iyer’s health in Australia
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian cricket team management are keeping a close eye on Iyer’s recovery. Indian team physician Dr. Rizwan Khan is currently in Australia and he is regularly monitoring Iyer’s health.
The BCCI has also arranged for a family member to travel to Sydney to stay with him during this recovery period. As of Tuesday, Iyer’s condition is showing steady improvement. He is answering phone calls, eating home-cooked food prepared by local friends and even doing his daily chores without any trouble.
He is in good spirits and is feeling much better since the incident. Once Iyer completes his recovery period, the medical team will review his progress and decide when he can safely return to India.

“Rare talent, rare phenomenon”: Suryakumar Yadav on Shreyas Iyer’s injury
Earlier, India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav had shared that Iyer is recovering well. He informed that the team is in touch with him and Iyer is now talking and responding normally. Doctors and physios are keeping a close watch on him and he is expected to recover soon.
Suryakumar Yadav said in the pre-match press conference, “Doctors and physios said whatever happened was unfortunate. Such incidents are very rare. But Shreyas is also rare. So, sometimes rare things happen with rare talent. But it’s okay. God was with him; he is recovering really well. All the doctors are supporting him. BCCI is in full support. So, he will be back soon.” He’ll be fine, and then we’ll take him home with us.”
