G Kamalini and Vaishnavi Sharma took their first big step
In a clear sign of India’s growing confidence in its youth pipeline, wicketkeeper-batsman Kamalini and teenager Vaishnavi have broken into the senior setup after excellent performances in the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup earlier this year. Both were crucial to India’s campaign in Malaysia and were subsequently named in the best XI of the tournament – an achievement that kept them firmly on the selectors’ radar.
Kamalini, who made her WPL debut for Mumbai Indians earlier this year, has been selected as the second wicketkeeper. His rapid progress has come at a crucial time, with regular keeper Yastika Bhatia currently in rehabilitation following an ACL injury ahead of the 2025 ODI World Cup. Kamalini’s fast bowling and improved batting consistency have made her a strong contender for long-term consideration.
At just 19, Vaishnavi has been one of the most promising spin prospects in the domestic circuit. The left-arm spinner dominated the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy and became the leading wicket-taker in the tournament by dismissing 21 players in 11 matches at a remarkable economy rate of 4.5. His accuracy, flying variation and flair under pressure played a major role in taking Madhya Pradesh to the final.
