Three days, on September 18, Mumbai batsman scored just 8 runs off 13 balls, fell for off-spinner Corey RokioColi,
In response to Australia’s declaration of 532/6, India was hovering at A223/3, but Iyer’s dismissal meant that it was only one of the top five who did not cross 30. His failure stood in another major batting performance.
The two-match informal test series has been overcome by assuring the return of the captain, Iyer. This latest dismissal marks its third straight straight score in red-ball cricket. Earlier in the Dalip Trophy 2025, representing the West Zone, he scored just 25 and 12 runs against the Central Zone, which fell quickly from Alel Ahmed and Sarasash Jain.
The tendency is worrying for selectors, especially anchoring the middle order with Iyer and expecting lead a promising India.

However, since his final test appearance in February 2024 against England, the right-handed senior squad has been dropped, recalling the recent five-match test chain in England due to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and farm and fitness issues against Australia.
India is ready to host West Indies and South Africa for each-testing series in October and November 2025, and selectors will monitor Iyer’s form in matches against Australia.
