Cheteshwar Pujara chooses batting order for Dhruv Jurel
India’s experienced batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has backed Dhruv Jurel to continue his excellent form and cement his place in India’s playing XI for the first Test. Speaking to JioHotstar, Pujara said that the young wicketkeeper-batsman has shown remarkable growth and temperament especially during pressure situations.
“First of all, the kind of form Dhruv Jurel is in, he definitely deserves a place in the playing eleven.” Pujara acknowledged Jurel’s recent consistency and responsibility with the bat.
Pujara feels that the No. 6 position is best suited for Jurel in the current team structure. With the middle order requiring stability and the ability to build partnerships, this position provides the ideal balance for a wicketkeeper-batsman who can change gears when needed.
“I believe he will bat at number six, that’s my guess,” Pujara highlighted that Jurel’s game awareness and adaptability make him a natural fit for that batting slot.
The senior batsman also threw light on India’s possible bowling combination for the first Test. Given the conditions at Eden Gardens, Pujara expects India to rely heavily on their spin department.
“Depending on the pitch, India will probably go with three spinners and two seamers. That’s how I see the team combination and how Jurel fits into the eleven,” He explained, suggesting a strategy that has been historically effective in Indian home Tests.

There are a lot of expectations from Jurel amid Rishabh Pant’s return to the Test unit.
Even as Jurel pressed his case with a strong performance, the headlines intensified Rishabh Pant Back to test setup. Pant’s explosive batting and ability to change the course of the game has made him India’s leading wicketkeeper in red-ball cricket. Nevertheless, Jurel’s recent form ensures that competition for the role is healthier than ever.
Jurel has demonstrated maturity beyond his experience, demonstrating patience and a willingness to take responsibility during challenging stages of the game. These attributes along with the technical improvement he has shown in recent tours has impressed India’s think tanks and former players alike.
While Pant remains India’s first-choice pick, there is a growing belief that Jurel’s emergence provides the team with depth and a reliable backup who can carry on seamlessly. His success against South Africa A has not only boosted his confidence but also created a positive selection headache for the team management.
