Winning the toss, India captain Gill decided to field citing the nature of the surface and the challenge of chasing on a high-scoring ground like Indore. Gill highlighted that although dew was not expected to play a major role, the pitch looked good for batting, making it important to assess the conditions early and then chase with clarity.
Gill also admitted that India need to improve in those areas, especially in the middle overs. According to the captain, the bowling unit should vary the length better and look for wickets in the middle stages, as it becomes difficult to stop runs if partnerships are allowed to flourish.
Why did the famous Krishna miss out?
The primary reason for Prasidh’s exclusion is tactical rather than fitness related. India has opted to bring back the left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep SinghPrasidh’s place in the playing eleven. Since Indore is traditionally a batting-friendly venue, the India think tank felt that Arshdeep’s ability to swing the new ball and provide variety with his left-arm angle could be more effective, especially during the powerplay and in the death overs.
Gill confirmed at the toss that this was the only change to the Indian lineup, underlining that the decision was based on conditions and match-up requirements rather than any performance concerns around Prasidh.
India’s bowling attack has a mix of pace and spin for the decider Mohammad Siraj And Arshdeep led the fast bowling, supported by Harshit Rana. -Kuldeep Yadav And Ravindra Jadeja Provide spin options, which could be crucial in the middle overs – an area that Gill cited as a particular focus for improvement.
By selecting Arshdeep, India have strengthened their options with the new ball, while retaining enough depth to counter New Zealand’s aggressive middle order.
