“I’m not coming down” – Jason Gillespie rejects ‘stupid’ PSL welcome video

Former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie recently took social media by storm ahead of the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season. Hyderabad Kingsmen’s newly appointed head coach Jason Gillespie has gone viral after he refused to take part in the traditional promotional arrival video, calling him an “idiot”.

Hyderabad Kingsmen will enter PSL 2026 as a brand new franchise this year. Gillespie joined the team management in January and returned to Pakistan in a coaching role. He stepped down as Pakistan’s red-ball coach ahead of the Test series against South Africa in December 2024.

Jason Gillespie’s viral PSL video remains a topic of discussion on social media

In the viral 29-second social media clip, a camera sweeps the hotel lobby and then pans over to Jason Gillespie standing casually on the balcony. When Gillespie was asked to record his official PSL arrival video, he gave a cheeky response.

Speaking from the balcony, Gillespie dismissed the publicity request while maintaining a professional mindset. The Hyderabad Kingsmen head coach said that he had more important coaching responsibilities than filming repetitive social media content.

“I’m not coming down. I have a lot of work to do. I’m not going to shoot those stupid welcome videos.” Gillespie said in a video viral on social media.

After his reaction, Gillespie walked away with a light-hearted thumbs-up. Fans praised the franchise for the creative moment, with many enjoying the subtle dig at the repetitive slow-motion arrival videos used by other teams.

Marnus Labuschagne appointed captain of Hyderabad Kingsmen for the PSL season

Marnus Labuschagne has been appointed the captain of Hyderabad Kingsmen for the upcoming PSL season. He becomes the third Australian to lead a franchise this year, joining David Warner and Ashton Turner in taking on leadership roles in teams.

Labuschagne does not have much experience in T20 captaincy and is not a regular player in this format. He joined the franchise through a direct signing and will work closely with head coach Jason Gillespie and the support staff to lead the team.

The Kingsmen team includes experienced players like Glenn Maxwell, Kusal Perera and Sam Ayub. The management chose Labuschagne to lead the side, relying on his leadership qualities to guide a relatively new and developing team this season.

PSL 2026 to be played behind closed doors as PCB limits matches to Lahore and Karachi

The eleventh edition of the Pakistan Super League will be played without spectators due to the ongoing crisis in West Asia. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has limited the tournament to two venues, with matches scheduled only in Lahore and Karachi.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi also confirmed that the traditional opening ceremony in Lahore has been cancelled. The Board has taken these steps to ensure smooth conduct and maintain security during the tournament.

Hyderabad Kingsmen, led by Marnus Labuschagne, will begin their campaign against three-time champions Lahore Qalandars in the opening match at the Gaddafi Stadium on March 26. The match will take place behind closed doors without any fans in attendance.
