Rohit earlier faced heavy criticism when his overweight pictures circulated online, raising concerns over his fitness. However, the opening batsman silenced his critics with his transformation ahead of the return series in Australia. Due to the visible changes in his fitness, he also started being compared with experienced batsman Virat Kohli.

Rohit Sharma made a comeback to international cricket during the Australia tour. He scored a century and a half-century in the series, where India lost 1–2. The right-handed batsman finished as the highest run-scorer and collected the Player of the Series award.
He scored 73 runs in 97 balls in Adelaide and became the first Indian to score 1,000 ODI runs on Australian soil. After this, he scored unbeaten 121 runs in Sydney and led India to victory by nine wickets. Sharma continued that form into the series against South Africa.
The opening batsman scored two half-centuries in three ODIs and looked fitter than Australia. He scored a half-century in the opening ODI in Ranchi and scored 75 off 73 in the third ODI in Visakhapatnam, helping India win the series.

Rohit Sharma’s love for food is no secret, but the senior batsman is now committed to staying disciplined about his fitness. After India clinched the series in Vizag, Virat Kohli was asked to cut the cake during a celebration at the team hotel.
Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal were invited together, but Kohli stepped aside and encouraged the youngster to step into the limelight. After this Jaiswal presented a piece of cake to Kohli.
As Jaiswal offered Rohit a slice, the captain smiled and declined, saying, “I’ll be fat again.” His light-hearted answer made the whole room laugh and the video quickly went viral on social media.

Rohit Sharma undergoes major fitness transformation ahead of major duties
During his break from cricket, Rohit Sharma spent several weeks training under former India assistant coach Abhishek Nair. He did heavy workouts, cross-fit and cardio almost every day. The batsman also changed his eating habits and even gave up his favorite snacks.
Rohit lost about 10-11 kg in about three months. When he returned to international cricket, fans immediately noticed his lean look on the field. His improved fitness is seen as a serious step towards remaining strong for the next few years.
Rohit wants to keep himself ready for future tournaments including the 2027 World Cup. He has sought permission from the Mumbai Cricket Association to play in the knockouts of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He is also expected to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to remain match fit.
