We will not rush into decisions – Brendon McCullum on England’s next Test captain

Brendon McCullum said the selectors will take their time before naming Ben Stokes’ successor. England are not scheduled to play another Test against Pakistan at Headingley until mid-August, giving the ECB ample time to make a decision. Joe Root, Jacob Bethel, Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope are also contenders.

England’s recent Test series defeat to New Zealand has made the captaincy decision even more important. The ECB is also considering whether to have separate captains for Test and white-ball cricket to reduce the workload on players and create long-term stability.

Brook has shown his commitment to England by putting international cricket ahead of franchise leagues. He left the Pakistan Super League and accepted a two-year IPL ban after opting out of his Delhi Capitals contract. He also wants to continue improving under Brendon McCullum’s aggressive cricket style.
