Pakistan began their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 campaign with a win over South Africa in the first Test of the ongoing two-match series at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on October 15. The Men in Green moved up to second place in the WTC standings, leaving behind India and Sri Lanka.

Pakistan recorded a 93-run win over the World Test Championship 2025 winners on Wednesday. Chasing the target of 277 runs, South Africa was all out for just 183 runs on the fourth day. Left-arm spinner Noman Ali was the best bowler for the hosts, taking 10 wickets in both innings to ensure victory.

Pakistan reached second place in WTC points table

The Shan Masood-led side secured 12 crucial points and moved up to the second position in the WTC standings with 100 per cent points. Australia also have 100% PCT and 36 points after winning three Test matches against West Indies.

Sri Lanka slipped to third place in the updated table, while India dropped to fourth place. The Shubman Gill-led Indian team, which recently defeated West Indies by seven wickets in the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, has 52 points with a scoring percentage of 61.90.

After the loss to Pakistan, South Africa are at seventh position with 0 points and 0.00 PCT. West Indies are placed eighth with 0 points and a PCT of 0, having played five matches in the current WTC 2025-27 cycle and losing all.

Pakistan is ready to face South Africa in the second test in Rawalpindi.

The second Test of the ongoing Pakistan-South Africa series is scheduled to be held from October 20 to 24 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. A win for Pakistan will secure their second position in the 2025-27 points table, while a draw will reduce their PCT from 100 to 66.67.

It is noteworthy that if Pakistan loses the upcoming match then its PCT will come down to 50. The Men in Green will slip to fourth place in the standings.

After this South Africa will tour India for a two-match Test series. The first match of the series is scheduled to begin on November 14 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, followed by the second Test at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati from November 22.
