New Zealand performed brilliantly in the third Test against West Indies, winning by 323 runs on Monday, 22 December. After this win, New Zealand moved from third to second place in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 table, strengthening its position in the title race.
Chasing a target of 462 runs at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, the visitors were all out for 138 runs in their second innings. Fast bowler Jacob Duffy took five wickets for the Black Caps. Spinner Ajaz Patel also played a key role, dismissing three batsmen as West Indies struggled in the final match of the tour.
New Zealand’s dominance with bat and ball in the final test
After electing to bat first, openers Tom Latham and Devon Conway handled the initial conditions with ease and scored centuries. Conway scored a double century. Rachin Ravindra made important contributions and New Zealand posted a huge score of 575 runs in the first innings.
West Indies responded by scoring 420 runs in their first innings. Kavem Hodge remained unbeaten with a half-century, while Brandon King and several others made useful starts, although none converted it into a big score.
New Zealand attacked again in the second innings. Latham and Conway once again set a strong platform with centuries, while quick runs from Kane Williamson and Rachin Ravindra pushed the target to 465 beyond reach.
West Indies made a positive start to the chase, but the innings collapsed once the opening partnership was broken. Jacob Duffy opened the batting taking five wickets and the Windies were reduced to 138 runs from 87/0.

New Zealand secured a 2–0 series win over the West Indies and secured vital points in the World Test Championship. New Zealand moved to second place in the WTC table with 28 points and 77.78 PCT, overtaking South Africa.
Meanwhile, West Indies are at the bottom of the table with a very low points percentage and have now lost seven of their eight matches in this WTC cycle, almost knocking them out of the race for the final.
Australia, who are on top, beat England by 82 runs in the third Ashes Test to take a 3-0 lead and remain unbeaten in the cycle with six wins and a perfect points record. England are in seventh place after winning only two of their eight matches. India is at sixth position with 48.15 marks percentage.
