Mitchell Starc was named player of the match for his bowling.

Before Travis Head grabbed the headlines with his explosive batting, Australia had already taken control of the first Test through the brilliance of Mitchell Starc. The left-arm fast bowler devastated the England team on the first day and decided the direction of the match by taking seven wickets.

Starc came back to dismiss three more players in the second innings. The 35-year-old player completed ten wickets in the match and the England team was bowled out for 164 runs in the second innings.

Brendan Doggett made an impressive start, taking three wickets, while Scott Boland took 4 for 33 in 11.4 overs. Notably, England took a lead of 40 runs in the first innings but lost control of the match due to careless shots from their batsmen.

The Ashes series has now moved to Brisbane, where the second Test, a day-night encounter played with the pink ball, is scheduled at the Gabba from December 4 to 8.
