India National Cricket Team and England National Cricket Team started their ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle with the fight against each other.
The first test of the five -match series between the India National Cricket Team led by Shubman Gill and the England National Cricket Team led by Ben Stokes was hosted by Headingley in Leeds from 20 to 24 June.
Three centuries for Team India in the first innings
Ben Stokes & Company won the toss and invited the visiting team to bat first in the match. He faced a lot of criticism for the move as the conditions on the proposal were really good to bat and the Shubman Gill -led side took the most advantage of it.

KL Rahul (42) and Yashsvi Jaiswal (101) offered a solid start, and they were mostly uncontrolled by Chris Woakes, Josh Tongue and Bridan Cars.
After the opener left, Shubman Gill first captained India in the trials, led the front and scored a brilliant unbeaten 147, which showed good maturity.
Rishabh Pant (134) became India’s third Centurion in the innings playing a wonderful knock, but the visitors lost a shocking collapse and lost 7 wickets for just 41 runs to burn for 471.
England batted brilliantly in their first innings as well, and unlike India, they came with the efforts of a proper team rather than over -existence on some batsmen.
Oli Pope and Harry Brook were the top two artists with the bat, as 106 runs were scored in the east and the latter scored a brilliant 99 runs. England bundled for 456, giving India a small lead. For visitors, Jaspreet Bumrah was a hero in the innings as he raced a sensational 5-cicat despite several dropped catchs.
India set a target of 371 runs on board for England
In their second innings with the bat, India once again did a wonderful job. This time, there were two centers – KL Rahul (137) and Rishabh Pant (118) – as the visitors ended with a score of 364, set a target of 371 for the hosts.
Like the first innings, India’s score could have been large, they had no collapse with the lower order, which had no contribution. For England, Bridan Cars and Josh Jibha took three wickets in each in the third innings of the match.
Chasing the target, Zak Croly and Ben Docket batted brilliantly and pressed a stunning 188-run opening stand to put India under tremendous pressure.
Ben Docket played a knock for age as he scored 149 runs off 170 balls. Even though the two wickets of the famous Krishna and Shardul Thakur helped India make a mini comeback, the three lions managed to easily complete the run-chase with Joe Root (53*) and Jamie Smith (44*). England won the match by 5 wickets and took a 1-0 lead in the series.
