The West Indies have suffered a massive shock before their three -match ODI series against Pakistan, starting in Taraba on Friday, August 8. Young pace bowler Matthew Ford has been dropped from an ODE series of the house after disliked his shoulder while trying to take a catch during an exercise session on Wednesday, August 6.
After losing to Matthew Ford to a shoulder injury, the selectors of the West Indies have brought the ODI series of the upcoming three-match against Pakistan, to take a promising seam-bouling all-rounder Johanna of the West Indies Academy.

Now, West Indies’ pace attacks include Zeden Seal for the upcoming ODI series at home, Shamar Joseph, Romario Shepherd and Zedia Blade. Goodkesh will lead the thick spin department, while veteran Pesar Alzari Joseph has been rested for the Pakistan series.

However, the Caribbean side will still remember Matthew Ford’s services with the bat. In May 2025, the fast bowler earned 16 balls against Ireland, and it was the fastest fifty by West Indian at ODI. The right -handed batsmen have 172 runs in 10 ODI innings.
Well, they are now hoping to bounce back after losing the T20I series 2–1 in Pakistan in Lauderhill. The hosts will now aim to win the fourth consecutive ODI series, defeating England twice and Bangladesh from the beginning of 2023.

However, this is only his fifth ODI series in about two years. Vidies are still facing a difficult fight in the ODI format. He has missed the last two ICC ODi Tournament- 2023 ICC World Cup and 2025 ICC Champions Trophy and is currently ranked 10th in the ICC ODI team rankings.
Now, they will have to climb at least one place to break the ICC ODI team rankings in South Africa and Zimbabwe to directly qualify for the ICC World Cup 2027. And for this, they need to defeat Pakistan at the sixth place in the ODI series of the house to promote their standing.

Meanwhile, Windies coach Daren Sammy saw the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan as an important step towards the 2027 ODI World Cup qualification. Former World Cup winning captain team is aiming to promote the ranking, creating a winning mentality.
