International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially closed London’s iconic Kennington Oval as a host venue 2027 World Test Championship (WTC) Final. The showpiece clash, taking place from Wednesday, June 9 to Sunday, June 13, 2027, will crown the premier red-ball team in world cricket after a tough two-year cycle. The decision marks a significant milestone on the global sporting calendar, in line with the 150th anniversary celebrations of Test cricket.
ICC finalizes host venue for 2027 World Test Championship final
The ECB secured multi-edition hosting rights for the 2027, 2029 and 2031 WTC finals, leaving the selection of specific venues up to the host board. The selection of the Oval brings the marquee event back to the arena with a rich history of dramatic title deciders. The venue previously staged the 2023 WTC Final, where Australia Conquered India to lift the prestigious ICC Test mace.
The 2027 final holds additional historical significance. Highlighting the occasion, General Manager of Events and Operations, ICC, Gaurav Saxenanoted that this clash will serve as a central event in honor of 150 years of Test cricket. Less than a year before the London finals, the qualification tables are heating up across all nine competing nations. Defending champion South Africa is in second place with 75.00%, followed by New Zealand with 72.22%.
