Match officials felt that this action was unnecessary and could have caused an angry reaction from the dismissed batsman. On Wednesday, December 3, the International Cricket Council (ICC) reviewed the heated moment and found Harshit guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of the code of conduct.

The ICC on Wednesday reprimanded Rana for his actions and gestures towards Brevis ahead of the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur. Along with the warning, Harshit has also been given one demerit point on his record for his controversial celebration.

“Harshit was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to ‘using language, actions or gestures that are likely to provoke an insulting or aggressive reaction when a batsman is out during an international match,'” the ICC said in an official statement.
