Amidst all the setbacks in recent times, Pakistan cricket finally has something to cheer about. Opener Sahibzada Farhan, who batted brilliantly in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2026, has won the ICC Player of the Month award. The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the award to honor the best performer in the one-month course.
Sahibzada Farhan received the award based on his exceptional batting for the national cricket team in major ICC tournaments. Pakistan, under the leadership of Salman Ali Aga, qualified for the Super 8 stage of the tournament but failed to reach the semi-finals. Even after defeating Sri Lanka in a do-or-die match in the final match of the Super 8, their run for the title ended.
Why did ICC honor Sahibzada Farhan?
With his batting, Sahibzada Farhan created a new record in the T20 World Cup. During the camp, the opening batsman scored 383 runs, the most by any individual batsman in the history of the tournament. Earlier, this record was in the name of Indian batting star Virat Kohli, who had scored 319 runs during the 2014 tournament.
The 30-year-old player, who scored 383 runs at an impressive average of 76.60 in seven T20Is, is naturally very happy to receive the special award based on individual performance.
Sahibzada Farhan thanks his teammates for winning the award
However, he thanked his teammates for supporting him throughout his journey at the highest level of Twenty20 cricket. Sahibzada Farhan has vowed to continue similar performances for the Pakistan national cricket team in the upcoming games.
After receiving the award the batsman said, “It is an incredible feeling to win this ICC award, especially for the performance on the World Cup stage, with fans all over the world watching every moment. It makes it even more special.”
He said, “This was truly a tournament that I will always cherish and I am committed to carrying this momentum forward into the series and competitions. I am extremely grateful to my teammates for their continued support and belief in me – this would not have been possible without them.”
ICC also honored India’s Arundhati Reddy
On the other hand, India’s Arundhati Reddy received the ICC Player of the Month award for February, 2026 in the women’s cricket category for her excellent seam bowling, which helped the Indian women’s cricket team win the T20 series against Australia by a 2-1 margin. With 22 wickets at an economy rate of 7.25, Reddy was the leading wicket-taker in the bilateral series.
Reddy mentioned that the series win against Australia was important for them as they prepare for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in the summer, which will be hosted by England and Wales. The bowler is hopeful of good results in the tournament as the team is quite balanced.
Arundhati Reddy said, “This series win is a huge boost to our team’s confidence as we prepare for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to be held in England and Wales this summer. We have a well-balanced squad and I am confident that we will be a team to watch.”
