ICC breaks silence on Rohit Sharma, removing Virat Kohli from ODI batting rankings

However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) quickly clarified that the error was purely technical, and the ranking has been fixed since then. The world’s governing body has confirmed that both players have retained their original positions in the ranking and remain active in the ODI format.

A spokesman of the ICC was told by Hindustan Times, “Today there was an error in our ranking table, but it has been fixed.”

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli back in ICC ODI batting rankings

An update ICC ODI batting ranking suggests that Rohit Sharma returned to his number two position with 756 rating points, while Shubman Gill was the world number one ODI batsman with 784 points. On the other hand, Virat Kohli maintained his number four place with 736 rating points.

Shreyas Iyer is another Indian in the top 10 with 704 rating points in the latest ICC ODI batting rankings. Pakistan’s Babar Azam finished third with 751 rating points, while New Zealand all -rounder Deril Mitchell completed the top -5 list with 720 rating points.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli last depicted ODIs in February 2025 during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 held in UAE. Both played an important role in India to end a decade long wait for a ICC ODI Crown in India. Now, both Tests and T20i have retired from cricket.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma set to return to Australia

Rohit and Virat are fully prepared to return to Indian colors in October when they will travel to Australia for the White-Ball series. It is being said that the upcoming three-match ODI series in Australia will be Rohit’s farewell series if he declares his retirement from the game.
