Former Indian off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were left heartbroken on Sunday (April 5) night after seeing their third consecutive defeat in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026).

The RCB vs CSK match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru became a painful experience for Ravichandran Ashwin due to his deep emotional bond with the Yellow Army.

He felt bad for the young boys in the Chennai Super Kings camp who are still trying to settle into a new setup and need more guidance, practice and intensity to survive at this level.

Ravichandran Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, “I think, even if RR loses, I will be a little disappointed. We have a little heart. Look, I am watching the match with neutral eyes. And I know CSK doesn’t have much options. And that’s why I don’t have any answer.”

Because I’m thinking, these are all new guys. These are all young boys. You will have to practice well for these boys. You have to give intensity from here. You have to change the whole environment from here.”

Ashwin reveals why he retired from IPL

Ashwin has also revealed for the first time about the real reasons behind his IPL retirement last year. This series of defeats for CSK reminded him of his tough days with the franchise. Ashwin revealed that the journey with the five-time champions last season was very painful for him.

The former off-spinner admitted that he still has the desire to play one more season for CSK ipl 2026But he decided to retire due to his struggling campaign, due to which he was completely mentally exhausted. If IPL 2025 is a good season for him, then Ashwin should be in action in 2026.

The Chennai player further added, “I spent a disappointing season with CSK. It was my own disappointing season. To be honest, I could have played one more season with all my heart. But I left it. Emotionally, I didn’t have the capacity to handle everyone. I think it was very disturbing mentally. It was very painful for me. I don’t want to go there. I discussed it a bit. Then I thought, OK. I started from here. I started from here. Want to finish in hometown, that’s fine.”

Ashwin’s retirement provided financial help to Chennai Super Kings.

Ashwin also revealed that his retirement made things easier for the CSK management as they did not have to worry about keeping or releasing him apart from emptying their purse.

He further added, “And if I retire because of me, they will have no problem in dropping me or keeping me. And besides, they get a prize of Rs 10 crore. If there is Rs 10 crore in the mini auction, you can buy a good player. And you can build a strong team. So, I am a bit disappointed.”

Ashwin admitted that he had expectations from CSK, but they disappointed him. He admitted that RCB was selected instead of Chennai for this match but only because of their strength. He told that CSK’s bowling has not been good this season and he feels that RCB has made a comeback after the break in Bengaluru.
