But speaking Raj Shamani Podcast, Chahal admitted that he was struggling with anxiety, depression and even suicidal ideas during the last months of his marriage. He revealed that negativity on social media spoiled his mental state and inspired him to be briefly away from cricket.
“I was worried, I was in depression. I had a suicidal idea. I saw a lot of things about myself on social media. I wanted a break from cricket. I started trembling due to anxiety and sweating despite being AC,” Chahal shared.
The spinner also revealed that he requested his state cricket team a break during the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 to focus on his mental good.

The reason behind the division from Dhanashree Verma
Chahal also opened what was the reason for the breakdown of his marriage. He explained that despite his efforts, he and Dhanashree were not eventually compatible, and his busy professional life made it difficult to spend quality time together.
“A relationship is like a compromise. If someone gets angry, the other has to listen. Sometimes it does not match the nature of two people. I was playing for India, and she was also talking. We could not meet more for 1-2 years. Two ambitious people can live together, but everyone has their own life and goal. Everyone as a partner, when you can work at a certain level. Chahal added.
