Oval pitch curator Lee Fortis ruled the dispute around his spat with Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir during the fifth Test between India and England. The pitch curator defended his actions against Gambhir, stating that he was incorrectly depicted as a villain to protect the main pitch area.
A warm field disagreement between Gambhir and Fortis became a viral moment a few days before the final test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The team led by Shubman Gill defeated England, captained by Oli Pope, at the last day by a six-run margin series at 2–2 level.

Two days before the final test, Gautam Gambhir was involved in a warm exchange with Curator Lee Fortis. Fortis created a confrontation to Indian players and employees after expressing concern about being very close to the pitch during an alternative practice session.

Fortis initially addressed the issue with Assistant Coach Satanshu Kotak, inspiring Gambhir to intervene. India’s head coach dismissed Fortis as “just a groundman” and said he had no right to direct the team.
