The final list of Pakistani cricketers has been released amid the ongoing dispute between India and Pakistan regarding the Hundred Franchise Tournament. According to reports, out of 63 players, only 14 players from Pakistan have been able to make their place in the auction list.
Men in Green cricketers like Shaheen Afridi, Usman Tariq, Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan and Sam Ayub are in the list of the last players in the country. However, Sahibzada Farhan, who scored 383 runs in the current T20 World Cup, is not a part of this list. Rauf is in the headlines as he is reportedly among the marquee players in the auction list for England’s franchise tournament.
Hundreds of franchise owners have no interest in Pakistani cricketers
Sadia Iqbal and Fatima Sana can also make it to the finals in the auction for the women’s tournament of the league. The auction for the women’s Hundred is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 11 and the men’s auction will be held the following day.

Ahead of the auction, it was widely reported that the Hundred franchises, which are associated with the IPL franchises, were not interested in signing any players from any particular country. This report spread rapidly on social media and a controversy arose within no time. MI London, Manchester Super Giants, Sunrisers Leeds and Southern Brave have relationships with Indian Premier League (IPL) team owners.
Moeen Ali and Michael Vaughan raised their voice against the possible development
A BBC report described the situation as a potential ‘shadow ban’ on Pakistani cricketers. Former England cricketers like Moeen Ali and Michael Vaughan have spoken out and urged the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to look into the matter.
According to a BBC report, the ECB first wrote letters to eight hundred franchises reminding them of their responsibilities on discrimination matters. Later, a joint statement was issued by the board and all eight franchises confirming that no players would be barred from the tournament on the basis of their nationality.
ECB and Hundred franchises issue a joint statement for the upcoming auction
“All eight teams are fully committed to selection based on cricket performance, availability and the needs of each team. The ECB is committed to ensuring that there is no room for discrimination, and has rules in place to take strong action to deal with any such conduct. Players should not be excluded on the basis of their nationality,” the joint statement said.
It has now been confirmed that Pakistani cricketers will also feature in the men’s and women’s auctions of the Hundred League. But will any of these cricketers find a buyer? It will be interesting to see.
