Returning for its 21st edition, the prestigious tournament will feature its trademark six-a-side, six-overs-per-inning format β a high-energy mix of power-hitting, athletic fielding and non-stop entertainment.
This year’s competition welcomes 12 teams from across the cricket world, including India, Australia, England, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and hosts Hong Kong as well as emerging nations Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. Following a successful revival in 2024 after a seven-year hiatus, the event continues its legacy as one of cricket’s most innovative and thrilling spectacles.
Hong Kong Sixes 2025: format and rules
Each match of the Hong Kong Sixes consists of two teams of six players each batting six overs (36 balls). Each fielder bowls one over, except the wicketkeeper, with one player allowed to bowl a second over. The batsmen will have to retire not out at 50 runs but can make a comeback if all other wickets fall. When five wickets fall, the last batsman continues with a runner and the innings ends after the sixth wicket.
The format is designed to reward aggressive batting and inventive bowling, encourage players to take bold risks and provide maximum entertainment β ββa true celebration of the fast and fun side of cricket.

Pool A: South Africa, Afghanistan, Nepal
Pool B: Australia, England, United Arab Emirates
Pool C: India, Pakistan, Kuwait
Pool D: Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Hong Kong China
The top two teams from each pool will advance to the quarter-finals, followed by the semi-finals and cup final, while the others will compete in the Plate and Bowl rounds.
