The Hobart Hurricanes won their first championship with a dominant performance against the Perth Scorchers. Their win also came in the same year that the Hurricanes men’s team won the BBL.

Lizelle Lee started aggressively by hitting three fours in the very first over and never allowed the bowlers to survive. She recorded the highest score and her best innings of the season in the WBBL final. The batsman hit 10 fours and four sixes, putting the Scorchers under immense pressure.

Lee first added 49 runs with Danny Wyatt-Hodge and then made a match-winning partnership of 77 runs with Nat Sciver-Brunt, who made 35. Perth’s leg spinner Alana King was unable to stop the flow of runs and was dismissed for 25 runs in just two overs.

Earlier, Earth Scorchers chose to bat first but could never gain momentum. Hobart Hurricanes dropped a few catches, but Perth could not take full advantage. Beth Mooney was given three chances in the powerplay and scored 33 runs but was bowled by Heather Graham in the 11th over.

Sophie Devine also tried to improve the innings. She started slowly, hitting two sixes, but was stumped in the 17th over when the team needed her to step up. Perth struggled to build any major partnerships.

Hobart bowlers held the position throughout the innings. Heather Graham took two important wickets and Lynsey Smith bowled brilliantly, conceding very few runs and taking 2 for 4 in just two overs. Paige Scholfield helped Perth reach 137 for 5, but the score was lower than usual. After a slow and difficult start.

I actually have two versions of this speech – Hurricane Captain Elyse Villani

Hurricanes captain Elyse Villani admitted she had prepared two separate speeches for the big night. Villani lightly requested that they not be judged for planning ahead, saying that this moment was so important to the team that nothing could be left to chance.

,Before I whip out, I actually have two versions of this speech, but I was expecting I would only have to read one of it, and I thought it would be best to be prepared because this is our first finals and it’s a big opportunity for our organization, no matter what happens tonight. So I’m glad I’m reading it, but please don’t feel bad about me.”
