“His season” Former CSK star predicts Rohit Sharma will rule IPL 2026

Legendary Indian batsman Rohit Sharma is often considered to be MI’s greatest batsman in the IPL, however, he has seen a major decline in his form in recent times. However, after showing glimpses of good form, his former Indian teammates have backed him.

Mumbai Indians’ five-time title-winning captain Rohit Sharma has faced criticism for not scoring enough runs with the bat in the last few seasons. However, coming into this season with the promise of a sixth title, the former skipper will have to deliver with the bat as well.

Former CSK spinner and Rohit Sharma’s Indian teammate Ravichandran Ashwin said that the batsman can give his best performance this season. He has retired from other formats and looks fitter than before.

“I personally think this will be a season where Rohit will really embrace it. He doesn’t need to play cricket for the entire season. He is getting enough breaks. His mind is fresh. He is in good shape physically. He looks really fit.

“And I think this could be a season where Rohit Sharma will bring back his T20 batting in the IPL,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

Rohit has received huge support from Ravi Ashwin after a fantastic IPL season

Considering the entire decade, Mumbai Indians batsman Rohit Sharma had two of the best seasons with the willow for MI in 2024 and 2025. He has scored 835 runs in both these editions at an average of around 150.

Ashwin explained that despite his poor form over the years, Mumbai Indians are looking forward to the impact he can make for India at the international level, and will have the chance to bring out the best in him.

“We should not forget that IPL batsman Rohit Sharma has not been very active in the last few years. But this could be a great opportunity for him to really get it back. And I personally think he can enjoy his season and do some incredible things for Mumbai Indians this season,” Ashwin said.

Will Rohit be used as an impact player once again?

Despite Rohit being one of their most experienced players and his experience being of utmost importance for any captain on the field, Mumbai Indians used him as an impact player.

Before the start of the season, MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene was asked about this, and he revealed that he had to manage some fitness-related issues. Last time, but we are looking forward to him being on the field this season.

However, the coach also claimed that his team is largely made up of all-rounders and one of Rohit and Suryakumar will have to act as an impact player.
