Former Team India captain Chris Srikkanth said that England all-rounder Sam Curran can struggle against the Indian batsmen in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026 on March 5 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Srikkanth said that if Curran bowls in the match, India’s aggressive top-order players can attack him.
Sam Curran has had mixed results for England during the World Cup. Curran has taken six wickets in seven matches at an average of over 25 and an economy rate of 8.60. He bowled crucial spells in the death overs against Nepal and Italy during the group stage, which helped England win those matches.
Sam Curran’s bowling is terrible – Kris Srikkanth
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Kris Srikkanth shared strong views about Sam Curran’s bowling. He said that Curran has not been effective with the ball in the tournament. He said that players like Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson can attack the left-arm fast bowler from the beginning.
“Sam Curran is just playing as a batsman. Except for the Nepal match, his bowling is very poor. If Curran bowls, the Indian batsmen will thrash him at Church Gate and Marine Drive,” Srikkanth said.
“If they open with Sam Curran, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson, they will hit them straight to Church Gate station. One ball will go towards Marine Drive,” he said.
India-New Zealand final is already written – Kris Srikkanth
Kris Srikkanth expressed concern about the depth of England’s batting. He said that only a few English batsmen, including Harry Brook and Will Jacks, have performed consistently well in the tournament. The former India captain also said that Varun Chakravarthy has had strong success against England in T20Is.
“England’s lineup relies heavily on Salt and Buttler. Although Brook is good, someone like Bethel is a guaranteed wicket for India. He will play across the line to Varun Chakravarthy and skyrocket to get out. India are favourites, probably 70-30 for India. They are a much better side than England,” Srikkanth said (via the above source).
He said, “Only Harry Brook and Will Jacques are playing well consistently. England’s batting is a big issue. The match will be decided in the first six overs of batting by both the teams. The India-New Zealand final is already decided.”
India is eyeing a strong performance against England in the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-finals.
India secured their place in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026 after finishing second in Super 8 Group 1. The team suffered a 76-run defeat to South Africa in Ahmedabad, but made a strong comeback with a 72-run win over Zimbabwe in Chennai. After this they registered a five-wicket win over West Indies.
Sanju Samson scored unbeaten 97 runs in 50 balls, which included 12 fours and four sixes. He helped India achieve the target easily. India will also hope that opener Abhishek Sharma achieves better form in the semi-finals against England.
Harry Brook and Will Jacques have scored 228 and 191 runs respectively in the tournament. However, their opening batsmen Jos Buttler and Phil Salt have struggled.
Varun Chakravarthy has taken 14 wickets in five matches against England at an average of less than 10 and an economy rate of 7.66. In the current tournament, Varun has taken 12 wickets at an average of 15.33 and an economy rate of 7.66.
