“He’s incredible” – Sourav Ganguly puts Jasprit Bumrah in the same league as Pakistan’s greats

India are world champions once again as they won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 by defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final. In the final, Jasprit Bumrah bowled a brilliant spell of 4/15, which remains the best bowling figures by a fast bowler in a T20 World Cup final. He won man of the match for his amazing spell.

Jasprit Bumrah finished the tournament as the joint-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets, along with his teammate Varun Chakravarthy. However, due to his excellent economy, Bumrah remained above Varun. His economy in eight matches played for the team was 6.21. In the semi-final match against England, this fast bowler had bowled the match-winner.

Jasprit Bumrah is an asset for India

In a match against England, where almost 500 runs were scored in both innings, Bumrah ended his spell at just 33/1 with an economy above 8. This revealed his talent. Even in the match that India lost against South Africa in the Super 8 stages, Jasprit Bumrah performed wonders with the ball as he took 3 for 15 in his four overs.

Many former cricketers and pundits have fallen short of words to praise Jasprit Bumrah’s extraordinary performances over the years. Bumrah was the player of the tournament in the 2024 T20 World Cup. In a recent interview, former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly praised the fast bowler for his exceptional bowling performances.

Jasprit Bumrah is an incredible combination- Sourav Ganguly

Speaking backstage with Boria, the former captain said, “India’s batting is phenomenal, and having Jasprit Bumrah is an incredible combination. He is fantastic. With the white ball, he is incredible. Wasim Akram and Bumrah will be the two greatest players I have seen in white-ball cricket under pressure.”

Here is the video

“Bumrah is the best in the business; he is a maverick. He is arguably the best bowler in the world at the moment. But in those days, every team had world-class bowlers. Australia had legends like Glenn McGrath, Jason Gillespie, Brett Lee and Shane Warne. Pakistan had the iconic pair of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.”

“If you look at the England cricket team, they had players like Andrew Flintoff, Steve Harmison and later James Anderson. Meanwhile, the South Africa national cricket team had a strong attack with Shaun Pollock, Allan Donald, Jacques Kallis and Lance Klusener.”

India eyes 2027 ODI World Cup

The Men in Blue have dominated white-ball cricket like no other team after losing to Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final. They have been excellent and have lost only two games in the last four ICC tournaments. This shows his dominance in the white ball format.

However, there has been a change in captaincy in the ODI format and Rohit Sharma has been replaced by Shubman Gill. There have been some problems with Gill’s leadership as India lost their first series at home against a New Zealand second-string side who were without some of their experienced bowlers. With an eye on the ODI World Cup 2027, Gautam Gambhir and the management need to fix the problems as soon as possible.
