Former Australia captain Aaron Finch expressed concern over Cameron Green’s batting struggles for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2026. “He doesn’t look the same,” the cricketer-turned-commentator said after the match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Eden Gardens on Monday.
Kolkata Knight Riders secured a point against the Shreyas Iyer-led side after the match was interrupted due to heavy rain. KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane faced criticism after deciding to bat first despite overcast conditions. The home team was reduced to 25 runs for two wickets inside four overs before the umpires called off the match.
Cameron Green looks apprehensive and nervous – Aaron Finch
Speaking on ESPNCricinfo, Aaron Finch said that Cameron Green is looking tentative at the crease. The former captain said that Kolkata Knight Riders should either bat him at the top of the order or drop him out until he regains his confidence.
“One of those dismissals was a run out, it was not part of their fault,” Finch said. “Still, he missed twice. There is a bit of a nervousness, he doesn’t look the same. Remember when he was at the top of the order for MI – how his intentions were completely different.”
He said, “He was putting pressure on the crease. Now he looks tentative. Don’t push him down. Either move him up the order, or rest him.”

Cameron Green largely fails to justify auction price
Cameron Green became the most expensive foreign player in the history of the Indian Premier League after Kolkata Knight Riders spent Rs. 25.2 crores. However, the 26-year-old has managed only 24 runs at an average of eight in three matches. Cricket Australia has also not given him permission to bowl.
Green batted at number three for Mumbai Indians during the 2023 season. This all-rounder scored 452 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 160.28. Kolkata Knight Riders need a similar impact from their overseas signing.
During the washed out match against Punjab Kings, Green delivered his second ball to the wicketkeeper off the bowling of Xavier Bartlett. Earlier, he scored 18 runs against Mumbai Indians and was run out against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Kolkata Knight Riders will next face Lucknow Super Giants on April 9 in Kolkata.
Aaron Finch criticizes Kolkata Knight Riders for shocking toss decision
Aaron Finch also questioned the Kolkata Knight Riders management for their decision to bat first despite the threat of rain. He said that the moisture under the pitch at Eden Gardens naturally helps the seam bowlers.
“Winning the toss and deciding to bat after being under cover all day – you know there’s rain in the air – it makes absolutely no sense. That’s alarm bells ringing for me. It’s not that they’re down two wickets for 25 runs. It’s the fact that ‘we shouldn’t be batting’.”
“You are taking the wrong decision even after having all the information. DLS works slightly better for the team batting second. You have all the information, so I don’t understand how you arrive at the decision to bat first.”
