Hobart Hurricane Won a spectacular victory by six wickets sydney sixers in the 7th match of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2025Thanks to a brilliant bowling performance from Hayley Silver-Holmes and a brutal batting performance from Lizelle Lee.
Hayley Silver-Holmes caused damage to Sixers’ top and middle order
After winning the toss at North Sydney Oval, the Hurricanes decided to bowl first – a decision that paid off brilliantly as they restricted the Sixers to 152/9 in 20 overs and chased down the target with four wickets remaining in just 16.5 overs.
Hayley Silver-Holmes delivered an extraordinary spell of the match and devastated the Sixers’ batting by taking 3 wickets for 18 runs in 3 overs. She struck hard early on, dismissing dangerous batsman Alyssa Healy with a fast ball, before dismissing captain Ashley Gardner (9) and all-rounder Amelia Kerr (0) in quick succession.
Their disciplined bowling began the collapse, preventing the Sixers from taking advantage of their start, despite a fluent innings from Healy and a late surge from Maitlan Brown, who contributed 29 runs from 21 balls.
Support came from Lynsey Smith (2/15) and Lauren Smith (1/14) as the Hurricanes maintained tight control throughout the innings.
Despite several promising partnerships, the Sixers were inconsistent with the bat in hand and kept losing wickets at crucial intervals. Healy’s aggressive 37, Perry’s brilliant 33 and Brown’s late hitting took the score past 150, but the Hurricanes’ diverse attack ensured that neither batsman could convert their starts into match-winning innings.
The Sixers’ score was 152/9, which proved inadequate on a batting-friendly pitch.
Lizelle Lee leads chase with explosive half-century
In reply, Hurricanes displayed excellent batting. Lizelle Lee was the star, scoring a brilliant 55 off just 33 balls with the help of 3 fours and 3 sixes and laid the foundation of a successful run chase.
Her opening partnership with Danielle Wyatt-Hodge, who scored 45 off 26, took the Hurricanes to 95/1 inside 9.2 overs, effectively taking the game away from the Sixers.
Later contributions from Nicola Carey (26 not out off 18 balls) and captain Elyse Villani (3 not out off 5 balls) ensured Hobart’s lead. The target was comfortably crossed at 154/4,

The Sixers struggled to contain the Hurricanes’ aggressive batting. Lauren Cheatle (1/27) and Ashley Gardner (1/40) got the breakthrough, while young spinner Caoimhe Bray (2/17) impressed with the timely wickets of Nat Sciver-Brunt (21 off 16) and Heather Graham (0 off 3).
However, the bowlers lacked consistency as Lee and Wyatt-Hodge dominated the early overs, leaving little room for the Sixers to make a comeback.
Silver-Holmes was named player of the match for his excellent bowling performance.
