A rare and dramatic incident shocked everyone during the third and final ODI between India and Afghanistan in Chennai on Saturday, June 20. Actually, Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi had to lose his team’s runs due to pitch violation.
The Men in Blue have already clinched the three-match ODI series by winning both the Dharamsala and Lucknow encounters, but Afghanistan tried their best to avoid a whitewash in Chennai and captain Shahidi did his best to keep the tourists in the match.

This strange incident came to light in the 40th over of Afghanistan’s innings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Hashmatullah Shahidi completed one run on the last ball of the over and everyone expected the Afghan captain to remain on strike till the next over.
But when the game started again, Rashid Khan was standing at the striker end. Soon, things became clear as Shahidi once again ran onto the protected area of the pitch. The umpires had warned him early in the innings, but after another infringement, they decided to take action under the terms of the game.
The result was that the single taken on the last ball of the over was removed from the scoreboard. Afghanistan also got a penalty of five runs. Following this incident, Rashid was out for just five runs off the bowling of Harsh Dubey in the ongoing final ODI against India in Chennai.
