The India national cricket team has included Harsh Dubey as a replacement for Washington Sundar for the third and final ODI against England at Lord’s. It will be interesting to see whether Harsh Dubey plays in tomorrow’s match or Kuldeep Yadav will be included in the playing eleven.
Washington Sundar suffered a right hamstring injury during the second ODI at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, when he was batting in the first innings of the match. He got injured while running and was out on the next ball after scoring just 2 runs in 5 balls on a bouncer from Saqib Mahmood.
Harsh Dubey replaced Washington Sundar
This will be only the second series for Harsh Dubey, who had earlier made his debut last month in the 1st ODI against Afghanistan at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala on June 13, 2026. The 23-year-old spin-bowling all-rounder performed brilliantly, taking 3 wickets for 47 runs.
Harsh Dubey did not feature in the second ODI, and in the third and final ODI against the Afghans, he took just one wicket and soon left for India A’s unofficial Test against Sri Lanka A and took three wickets in the two innings and also scored 59 runs combined.
Harsh Dubey’s domestic season
Dubey received his first international call-up after a record-breaking 2024–25 domestic season in which he was awarded the Ranji Trophy Player of the Series, taking 69 wickets and scoring over 450 runs for Vidarbha. He also performed well at the start of the IPL 2026 season, taking 13 wickets in 11 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
At first, he was included in the Test squad, but was not included in the one-off Test against Afghanistan. Given his experience batting lower down the order, Harsh Dubey remains a key all-rounder for India in the Test and ODI formats.
He would also like to be included in the Test team but needs to work harder, Manav Suthar has impressed in his debut match. The young bowling all-rounder has also been named in the T20I squad for the upcoming Zimbabwe series, which is scheduled to begin on July 23.
Washington Sundar’s setback is a big blow for India, because he was in great form in this series; He batted well under pressure after a dreadful T20 series.
Sundar scored a half-century in the first match and shared a 102-run partnership with Axar Patel and both the batsmen remained unbeaten in the run chase and India won the match by 6 wickets. Wash played an innings of 52 runs in 63 balls, which included four fours and a six and the winning runs also came from his bat.
