After a dramatic Boxing Day Test at the MCG, the final ICC Test batting rankings for the year 2025 were finally released by the International Cricket Council on Wednesday (December 31). The results led to significant changes in both the batting and bowling rankings, with Shubman Gill returning to the top 10 batsmen and Harry Brook reaching the highest ranking of his career.
Latest ICC Test Rankings: Big shock from Boxing Day Test, Shubman Gill returns to top-10
India’s Test captain Shubman Gill has found himself among the top 10 batsmen in the latest ICC Test batting rankings. Even though he played only one of the four innings during the recent home Test series against South Africa, Gill has moved up to 10th position with 730 rating points.
The right-handed batsman’s rise comes after Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey slipped four places and dropped out of the elite list. Gill now firmly finds himself among the best batsmen in the world and remains India’s second highest ranked Test batsman, with only Yashasvi Jaiswal ahead of him.

Currently, Jaiswal is ranked 8th in the ICC Test rankings with 750 rating points.
Harry Brook becomes world number 2 test batsman
However, England white-ball captain Harry Brook made the biggest jump to the top of the batting rankings. On a tough MCG pitch, Brook showed poise and patience and scored 41 and 18* to take a big lead.
He finished ahead of three big stars in the top five, Kane Williamson, Travis Head and Steve Smith. Brook ended the year as the No. 2 Test batsman in the world, behind only his teammate Joe Root, who remained the No. 1 batsman in the updated ICC Test rankings with 867 rating points.
Also, Smith’s struggles with consistency proved costly, causing the Australian stars to slip to fifth place. Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel has also moved up to 9th position, while Dinesh Chandimal (11th) and Rachin Ravindra (12th) have also gained one place each in the latest rankings.
Updated ICC Test bowling rankings: Jasprit Bumrah’s dominance continues
India’s dominance continued in the ICC Test bowling rankings as Jasprit Bumrah retained his position as the world No. 1 Test bowler with 879 rating points. However, Australia’s Mitchell Starc and Pakistan’s Noman Ali are challenging Bumrah’s position at the top in the updated ICC Test bowling rankings.

Starc’s sensational form in the ongoing Ashes 2025-26 has taken him to second place in the latest rankings with 843 rating points. Starc and Noman Ali both have the same number of points, but the Australian star has the best chance to overtake the Pakistani spinner and push Bumrah down the charts in the fifth and final Ashes Test starting in Sydney from January 4.
Scott Boland also moved up two places to 7th, while Gus Atkinson moved up four places to joint 13th with Ravindra Jadeja on the back of his Ashes performance.
Ravindra Jadeja remains the number 1 Test all-rounder
Ravindra Jadeja, on the other hand, finished 2025 as the world number one Test all-rounder with 455 rating points. England captain Ben Stokes is third in the latest ICC Test all-rounder rankings with 316 rating points.
Indian all-rounders Washington Sundar and Axar Patel are placed 11th with 202 rating points. Surprisingly, Atkinson was ranked 8th among the world’s top 10 all-rounders in Test cricket. Cameron Green also moved up to 17th in the rankings.
