Sunrisers Leeds refreshed his captaincy ahead of another The Hundred league clash. They have appointed Jack Crawley as their captain for the 2026 The Hundred season in place of Harry Brook.

On 13 June, the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad, owned by Sun Group, announced Jack Crawley as its newly appointed leader. The announcement read, “Orange Army, here is your captain for the men’s team. Captain Jack.”

Jack Crawley is a batsman who is running out of favorable conditions

The announcement came just as the opening batsman had decided to take a break from first-class cricket following the rejection he received from the England national cricket team. Jack Crawley is one of those English batsmen who is constantly struggling to score runs as per expectations. In the first six matches of the County Championship fixtures, the veteran batsman remained without a half-century, following which he decided to call time on his first-class career.

Crawley, who was England’s third-highest run-scorer in this winter’s Ashes, has failed miserably during his ongoing domestic season with the Kent cricket team. In 6 matches and 12 innings with Kent, the 28-year-old scored 226 runs in 12 innings at an average of 20.54, with a highest score of 44.

“Following discussions between Jack Crawley, the player group, the coaching staff and the ECB, Crawley will be rested for the next two County Championship fixtures,” Kent said in an official statement.

“This period will allow him to recharge so he can fully commit and give his all for the remainder of the season, with his immediate focus shifting to T20 cricket until the end of the Vitality Blast.”

This year’s The Hundred League is scheduled to begin on July 21. Ahead of the start of the season, Sunrisers Leeds will be hoping that their newly appointed captain finds his run-scoring bat again.

According to an ESPNCricinfo report published on June 11, it was reported that after discussions with franchise officials, Brook decided to step down from the additional burden as captain.

“ESPNcricinfo has learned that Crawley is also set to be appointed captain of Sunrisers Leeds for The Hundred, with his teammate Harry Brook agreeing with the franchise that he should play without the burden of captaincy this season,” it was reported a few days ago.

Zak Crawley scored his last half-century on 25 May 2026 during Kent’s match against Sussex. This was the only time in his last 10 matches that he crossed the 50-run mark.

Sunrisers finished third in 2025

Ahead of the 2026 season, Sunrisers Leeds retained Harry Brook and Brydon Carse for the 2026 edition of The Hundred, with Daniel Vettori as their men’s team head coach. Brooks and Carse, both England internationals, have been with the franchise since the inaugural 2021 season of the tournament.

Last season, Sunrisers Leeds (formerly known as Northern Superchargers) under the leadership of Harry Brook finished third in the 8-team points table with five wins and three losses from 8 matches. Oval Invincibles, the champions of 2026 The Hundred, emerged as the champions with 24 points.
