Had the selectors already decided to move ahead with Rohit Sharma?
Recently, a report in Times of India claimed that the national selectors had recently decided to move on from Rohit Sharma after the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan on home soil.
The report also claims that the team management wants Rohit to rest from the third ODI so that Yashasvi Jaiswal can get a chance.
However, Rohit reportedly did not agree to sit out; As a result, Indian captain Shubman Gill had to bat at number 3, as Virat Kohli was unavailable for the home series. Meanwhile, Lalchand Rajput has supported Rohit Sharma to continue in the post despite speculations of retirement.
Harry Brook wants every England batsman to learn from Joe Root
Meanwhile, the England captain has asked his teammates to learn from Joe Root ahead of the third ODI against India at Lord’s. Brook praised Root’s ability to remain calm, rotate the strike and build innings with ease.
Harry Brook told reporters, “I think personally you’re always learning. He (Root) has played almost 200 ODIs; he’s still trying to learn, he’s still trying to get better as a player and he’s the greatest batsman England has ever produced. Root has been such a good player for so many years and it’s great to have him in the team.”
Harry Brook admits England are too dependent on Joe Root
Brook admitted that England have relied too much on Root in recent matches, so he now wants the entire batting unit to follow his approach to become a strong ODI team as they aim to register a complete whitewash over the Men in Blue in the white-ball series by winning the final ODI.
“We’ve probably been too reliant on him in recent times in one-day cricket and Test cricket. Hopefully the boys can learn from what he’s doing, including myself, and realize how much easier he’s making batting by being able to rotate the strike. If we can add a bit of Joe Root to our batting as a collective team, we’ll definitely be in some strong position,” he said.
