England’s leading cricketers are likely to miss Test matches due to the upcoming Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028, where cricket will make its return to the grand stage.
Some of the top cricket playing countries will participate in the Olympics. Ahead of the event, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket Scotland are actively preparing a new entity called GB with the aim of representing Great Britain.

The unit aims to build a team comprising the top talent from England and Ireland. GB’s team has not been announced yet. Since the teams have not been announced yet, it is unknown which players from these two national cricket teams are going to represent the alliance at the 2028 Olympics.
It is believed that top cricket talents from both the countries will be part of the team. Since the event will be held during the summer, it will conflict directly with the ECB’s plans for the summer.
Throughout the summer, the English men are scheduled to play a number of matches in White. Due to so many different events, the England cricket team may have to form two separate teams, one for the bilateral series and the other for the Olympics.

Key players likely to miss several Tests
The Telegraph reported, “This would mean that players such as Harry Brook, who could have been England’s Test captain by then, would travel to LA for the Olympics rather than play against the West Indies. Players from the current squad such as Jacob Bethell and Jofra Archer could also be affected.”
It has also been told in the report that there is no concrete information about the GB team. Since there is still a lot of time left, there could be many equations on the board behind the scenes. In a two-year frame, even the top level players can differ.
“Given that the selection process for Team GB is still unclear, and we do not know who England’s best players will be in each format in two years’ time, it cannot be said with absolute certainty that Test regulars will miss the West Indies matches. However, there appears to be a strong desire at the ECB to support the return of the sport to the Olympics by making the best players available,” the report also noted.
