T20 World Cup 2026 will start in a few days. Teams have geared up to play a month of exciting T20 cricket to win the most prestigious T20 trophy in international cricket. Ahead of the competition, Harry Brook, along with the other first batch of captains, attended the World Cup captains’ press conference in Mumbai.
Along with Harry Brook, West Indies captain Shai Hope, Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan and Nepal captain Rohit Paudel are also included in this list. England is one of the strong contenders to win the T20 World Cup to be held in India and Sri Lanka. They are a strong team with amazing cricketers and they also have experience of playing in India.
England is looking to change its fortunes
However his last white-ball performance in the major ICC tournament in India did not go according to plan. However, this is a different format, and the Three Lions have the firepower from top to bottom to excel in the shortest format of the game. There will also be a challenge for the new captain Harry Brook, because this will be his first time captaining in an ICC event.
Harry Brook was asked about the dilemma going on in the India vs Pakistan match. As the latter have decided not to play against the defending champions in a show of solidarity towards Bangladesh, who have been eliminated from the T20 World Cup after their request to change the venue from India to Sri Lanka was not accepted.
Brook responded to the question by saying, “We just stay in our lane. It’s up to the ICC to decide who is playing or not. It’s above our pay grade. Dew can be a factor in some areas. You want to take into account the dew and the approach.”
Harry Brook is confident England can win the T20 World Cup
Harry Brook feels the team will take things one game at a time and is confident they can reach the final and win the trophy.
Speaking at the press conference before the competition. Harry Brook said when asked about his chances of winning silverware. “We want to take it game by game. We are confident and want to go to every level,” he said.
England’s target of 300 runs
In a T20 game, even a score of 200+ is not safe, and in some matches teams have even scored 300 runs, with England becoming the first country to score 300+ against South Africa in a Full Member Nations game. When asked if 300 is possible in India, Brook feels it is possible.
“300 is a real possibility in India. We want to take as many bowlers as we can. You want to be as quiet as possible,” Brook said. Brooke also wished good luck to the Under-19 England team which will take the field against India on Friday. The England captain said, “All the best to the Under-19 boys for the final. We will be watching them and cheering them on. It would be great to see them beat India.”
