India entered the 2025 Women’s World Cup with no expectations. They suffered three consecutive defeats in the group stage, to South Africa, Australia and England. However, just when their campaign seemed almost over, the Indian side showed patience. They bounced back and registered their first ICC World Cup win.

India registered a 52-run win over South Africa in the 2025 Women’s World Cup final at the DY Patil Stadium. The Women in Blue produced an all-round performance to defeat the Proteas on the biggest stage.

After the victory in the final match, both Smriti Mandhana and captain Harmanpreet Kaur had tears in their eyes. After falling short in the 2005 and 2017 finals, the team finally broke the barrier that had been troubling them for years.

Harmanpreet Kaur touched Amol Majumdar’s feet after the Women’s World Cup trophy

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur and head coach Amol Muzumdar shared the moment on social media platforms. Cameras captured Harmanpreet bending to touch her coach’s feet, a traditional sign of respect, before Muzumdar immediately hugged her warmly.

India entered the semi-finals by defeating New Zealand in the group match. Jemimah Rodrigues produced one of the greatest innings in women’s ODI history in the knockout match. He scored an unbeaten 127 runs which helped India achieve its highest ever successful run chase in this format.

Amol Majumdar described the World Cup victory as a historic moment. The head coach admitted that he was overwhelmed with pride. Muzumdar, who is in charge from 2023, said India had controlled most of the games throughout the tournament.

The Indian head coach was quoted as saying after the match, “I am speechless. Absolutely proud. They deserve every bit of this moment. Hard work, belief – they have made every Indian proud.”

“We never let the early setbacks deter us. We dominated most of the matches but just needed to perform better. Once we did that, there was no looking back,” he said.

Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma performed well in the final. Shafali won the Player of the Match award, while Deepti won the Player of the Tournament award for her consistent performances throughout the tournament.
