Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joti has rejected allegations of misbehavior with junior players made by senior fast bowler Jahanara Alam, including claims of hitting them. Responding to the allegations, Nigar Sultana also dragged India’s World Cup-winning captain Harmanpreet Kaur and her comment went viral.

Jahanara alleged that Nigar Sultana assaulted his young companions. He claimed that such behavior was nothing new and that juniors had been abused repeatedly. The Bangladesh Cricket Board rejected the allegations and expressed full confidence in Joti, the team and the team management.

Am I Harmanpreet Kaur? – Nigar Sultana Joti

Nigar Sultana Joti reminded Harmanpreet Kaur of breaking the stumps with her bat. He said that, like hitting his own bat or helmet, any such actions are confined to his personal space and are never directed at others. Jotti urged people to ask their partners if they have ever behaved violently.

“Why would I hit someone? I mean, why would I hit the stumps with my bat? Am I Harmanpreet, that I would hit the stumps like that? Why would I do that? In my personal space, if I am cooking or something, I can hit my bat here and there, I can hit my helmet – that’s my own thing,” Joty said in an interview with Daily Cricket.

She said, “But why would I do this with anyone else? Why would I get physical? Just because someone says so? You can ask other players or anyone else if I have ever done something like this.”

Harmanpreet Kaur breaks stumps during India’s 2023 Bangladesh tour

Harmanpreet Kaur broke the stumps with her bat during India’s 2023 tour of Bangladesh. In the final ODI, he reacted angrily to the LBW decision and later described the umpiring as “pathetic”. Kaur even commented that umpires should join the teams for photos during the trophy ceremony.

India tied that match by one run to end the series 1-1, but Harmanpreet Kaur’s behavior overshadowed the result. He was banned for two matches for his actions. Sultana mentioned Harmanpreet while rejecting Jahanara Alam’s allegations.

Notably, Harmanpreet Kaur led the Indian team to its first ICC trophy during the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 on home soil, where the Women in Blue defeated South Africa in the final.

I’m not that kind of girl at all – Nigar Sultana Joti

Nigar Sultana questioned the credibility and logic behind Jahanara Alam’s allegation. He said that if any junior player had really been assaulted, he would have informed the team management, coach or the officials present with the team.

“The way I’ve been described to everyone – I’m not that kind of girl at all. First of all, I’ve heard Jahanara Apu make allegations about me, saying that someone called her in Australia and said, ‘Please save us, Jyoti Apu is killing us and eliminating us.'”

“What I’m trying to say is this: As someone who hasn’t been here for six or seven years and moved to Australia – if I actually beat somebody or hurt somebody in any way, is there no team management, no manager, no coaching staff? So am I the final authority?” He asked the question.

Jotti said, “What I mean to say is that if this player had a problem, why would she call Jahanara Apu all over Australia? She could have shared it with anyone here.”
