Indian women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur faced an embarrassing situation during the India Women vs Australia Women ODI match at the Ninja Stadium in Hobart on February 27. Harmanpreet Kaur went to play a fancy shot against an Australian spinner, but ended up in a miserable situation.
India women’s national cricket team is currently in Australia for a 3-match ODI series. After the defeat in the previous match, India came to play the second match of the series. The Women in Blue will have to win the second match to remain level in the 3-match contest.
Harmanpreet Kaur scored her second consecutive half-century against Australia.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur played a crucial innings against the star-studded Australian bowling attack in the first innings. Kaur, who came to bat at number four in the batting order, played a stormy innings of more than fifty runs. Off 70 balls, he scored 54 runs, helped by a few 4s and a maximum.
A well-played half-century was briefly spoiled by a mistake. Kaur was scheduled to play reverse sweep against Megan Schutt on the last ball of the 39th over of the first innings. Megan Scuttt bowled slow, back-of-the-length and well outside off. The ball was delivered to the batsman with extra bounce. Kaur positioned herself to hit a sweep shot, but it failed to go as planned due to excess bounce.
The ball hit the grill of Kaur’s helmet.
Kaur could have easily guided the ball to the off side, but it was too late to adjust the situation substantially. Seeing the line of the delivery, the right-handed batsman set up the bat for a lap shot. He had to extend his arms and bat to reach the ball. The ball hit the lower part of the bat and then hit the batsman’s helmet grill.
