Another India vs Pakistan match is set, and then, the question is whether there will be a formal handshake between the two rival nations after the 2025 Asia Cup where, for the first time, Team India refused to shake hands with the Pakistan cricket team.
Ahead of the India vs Pakistan match in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur was asked whether there will be a handshake on Sunday evening when these two teams face each other at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Will India join hands with Pakistan?
To avoid any kind of controversy on the eve of the match, Harmanpreet Kaur refused to give any direct answer on this. Kaur said that they are all here only for cricket, because they love cricket since the beginning.
“Well, I think we are here for cricket, and we only talk about cricket; apart from cricket, we don’t talk about anything, and I don’t even think about anything apart from cricket. Cricket has been our dream since day one, and we only talk about it. As for tomorrow’s game, we are thinking of it as just another game that we are going to play,” Harmanpreet Kaur said in the pre-match press conference. Told reporters at the conference.
Team India is a strong contender to register victory over Pakistan.
Team India is the clear favorite to win this high-octane competition as they have a clear advantage over the Pakistan cricket team on paper in all tournaments and the World Cup. As per head-to-head statistics, the women have a 13-3 record against Pakistan in T20Is and are 6-2 in the Women’s T20 World Cup.
Statistics and favorite tags aside, Harmpreet Kaur admitted that whatever the previous results, it will be a pressure match in Birmingham. Kaur mentioned that pressure is a part of every game, so they will try their best on the field while enjoying the pressure situation.
There is pressure: Harmanpreet Kaur
Harmanpreet Kaur said, “There will definitely be pressure, which I agreed with earlier, whenever we play against Pakistan, there will be pressure – but at the same time it is just about how we enjoy that pressure because in any international game there will be pressure; it is just about giving your 100% in that game and enjoying every moment.”
Highlighting the importance of the match, Harmanpreet Kaur further mentioned that even as a spectator she felt the pressure, but she is fortunate to be among the very few who have been selected to be a part of the rivalry.
“I wouldn’t say there is no pressure; there is pressure. Ever since I started watching cricket as a supporter, I have felt that pressure, and now when we play, it is even more. But at the same time, we always say that the more we enjoy the game, the better it will be for us, because we are lucky to be selected for this big opportunity, and we just want to have fun on the field,” the Indian captain said.
