Harbhajan Singh’s strong support to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the ILT20, Harbhajan highlighted the unfortunate situation where Rohit and Virat’s future is being influenced by people who have not reached comparable milestones in cricket. He drew on his experience as a player to underline the importance of respecting the achievements and current form of legends like Rohit and Kohli.
“It is beyond our understanding. I probably wouldn’t be able to answer it because I have been a player myself and what I have seen has happened to me too. It has happened to many of my teammates, but it is very unfortunate. We don’t talk about it or discuss it.” Harbhajan said.
Both players have retired from the Test and T20 formats but remain active in ODIs, with Kohli scoring back-to-back centuries in the recent home series against South Africa and the fitter Rohit consistently scoring high scores, including an unbeaten inning of 121. Harbhajan praised him as a tenacious leader and role model who exhibits the qualities required to become a champion, emphasizing that his position in India’s cricket setup should not be questioned lightly.
,I feel very happy when I see a player like Virat Kohli who is still going strong. It is a bit unfortunate that people who have not achieved anything special are taking decisions about their future.Harbhajan said.
Harbhajan is worried about the pitch quality and future of Indian cricket.
Apart from supporting the veterans, Harbhajan expressed concern about the quality of cricket pitches in India, which he claims pitches are overly suited to bowlers and disadvantage batsmen by reducing scoring opportunities. He criticized the tendency to prepare rank-turning tracks that suited spinners with the new ball, arguing that such surfaces stifled the development of both batsmen and bowlers, particularly strike spinners.
Harbhajan urged the cricket board and ground officials to return to more balanced pitches that offer fair challenge to both the batting and bowling units, similar to overseas conditions where Indian batsmen get more opportunities to build innings. He also highlighted the impact of T20 cricket on the patience of players and stressed the need to prepare for the longer format to maintain India’s competitiveness in international cricket.
Harbhajan concludes by recognizing ongoing success ILT20 League In united arab emiratespraised its role in expanding cricket’s footprint in the region and providing opportunities for players from neighboring countries to compete with international stars.
“They have to start playing on good tracks. We don’t give our batsmen much chance to score runs. If we go on a foreign tour, our batsmen have a chance to score runs because the pitch is good for batting. The bowlers have to work hard. So I think now is the time that the pitches that have been made in the last 10-12 years should suit the bowlers, especially the spinners. Spinners bowl with the new ball. I Looks like we need to change that trend somewhere. I think it’s not the right kind.” It is a matter of doing. Our team is very strong and we have played well in England. Even if we play for five days, we will win. Why do you want to play two and a half day Test cricket? Harbhajan concluded.
