India coach Gautam Gambhir suffered the biggest humiliation of his life as fans chanted “Gautam Gambhir Hi Hi” to tarnish the reputation of the Indian coach by blaming him as the root cause of India’s defeat in Test cricket.
Gautam Gambhir has come to be considered the villain as India’s performance in the longest format of the game has declined drastically. Ever since he took over, India have lost their position in the top two in home Tests, overseas tours as well as the WTC.

From being one of India’s most loved coaches during his time in the Kolkata Knight Riders camp to being harassed by harsh comments after India’s recent defeat, Gautam Gambhir has faced it all.
At first, Indian fans never believed in his methods or his policies, as soon after his appointment, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, two legends, retired from the longest format of the game, and the blame for this was put on the KKR mentor.

India ranked 5th in WTC, behind Pakistan and Sri Lanka
India had many chances to make their third consecutive WTC final in 2025 when Gautam Gambhir takes charge of the team in 2024. However, they lost the series against New Zealand by a humiliating margin, and then the BGT defeat knocked India out of the race for the WTC final.
After the first season, Gambhir arrived in the second WTC season and lost two games during India’s tour of England. Two more defeats against South Africa have now put them in a big trouble, as it will be difficult for the Blue Team to bounce back from this situation.
After their recent defeat, they have dropped to 5th in the WTC points table, behind Pakistan and Sri Lanka, who are also not considered among the best teams in the red-ball format. This is due to the lower PCT compared to both the teams mentioned.
