Gus Atkinson out of cricket after Ashes injury

On Monday, December 29, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) officially announced that star fast bowler Gus Atkinson has been ruled out of the remainder of the Ashes 2025–26.

Gus Atkinson has been ruled out of the fifth and final Test due to a hamstring injury suffered during the fourth Test, which the Three Lions won at the prestigious Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) within 2 days of the game.

ECB issues official update on Gus Atkinson

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in an official statement issued on Gus Atkinson that a scan has revealed a hamstring injury.

“England men’s fast bowler Gus Atkinson has been ruled out of the remainder of the Ashes tour after scans confirmed a left hamstring injury.

“The Surrey right-hander left the field after bowling his fifth over in Australia’s second innings during England’s win at the MCG in the fourth Test.

“England will not call up any replacements for the fifth Test, starting in Sydney on January 4,” the ECB said.
