Gujarat Titans face horrific bus incident in Ahmedabad, hours after IPL 2026 final loss

The Gujarat Titans (GT) team escaped a potentially serious off-field incident on Sunday night, according to a report in TimesofIndia.com. Notably, the team bus developed mechanical problems while transporting players and support staff away from the stadium, forcing everyone on board to evacuate as a precautionary measure.

The incident took place soon after the IPL 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 31. Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans suffered a five-wicket defeat to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who successfully chased the target of 156 runs to win the IPL 2026 trophy.

Gujarat Titans squad evacuated after electrical fault in bus

According to a TOI report, an electrical fault led to a tense situation in the Gujarat Titans team bus soon after the IPL 2026 final. The vehicle reportedly started filling with smoke during the journey, forcing the players and support staff to evacuate as a safety precaution.

The incident occurred when the team was returning to its team hotel in Ahmedabad. Videos from the scene showed police personnel managing traffic and keeping onlookers away from the area.

After getting off the bus, the players and staff kept waiting on the roadside. Reports say the squad remained there for about an hour before an alternative vehicle arrived to take them safely to the hotel.

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill remained positive despite his team’s defeat in the IPL 2026 final. Speaking during the post-match presentation, Gill said that every team has areas to improve, whether they win the trophy or not.

In the post-match presentation he said, “We couldn’t get over the line, but there are always things you can improve on. And even though we won the trophy, there were still things as a group we needed to work on.”

Batting first, Gujarat Titans scored 155/8 after early dismissals of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan. Washington Sundar bounced back with an unbeaten half-century to help his team reach a competitive score.

In reply, Royal Challengers Bangalore achieved the target easily. Venkatesh Iyer provided a flying start with 32 off 16 balls, while Virat Kohli led the innings with an unbeaten 75 off 42 balls as RCB won by five wickets with two overs to spare.

Gujarat Titans face tough itinerary during IPL 2026 playoffs

Cricket fans and commentators on social media discussed the demand for Gujarat Titans’ itinerary during the IPL 2026 playoffs. The team got little time to recover between important knockout matches as they traveled to many cities in a short period of time.

GT had lost to RCB in Qualifier 1 in Dharamshala on May 26 before traveling to Chandigarh. They made their comeback by defeating Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Qualifier 2 in Mullanpur on 29 May. However, his chartered flight to Ahmedabad was delayed till late Saturday night due to bad weather in north-western India.

The IPL 2026 final ended in disappointment for Gujarat Titans. RCB captain Rajat Patidar lifted the trophy and secured a second consecutive IPL title for the franchise. For the Titans, this was their third appearance in the IPL final.
