Gujarat Titans assistant coach Parthiv Patel revealed that Shubman Gill has once again been ruled out due to a neck sprain, a strange injury which has caused Gill to miss many tournaments or important matches. The coach has updated that he should be fine as it doesn’t seem that serious.
Gujarat Titans are heavily dependent on their captain Shubman Gill to strengthen their batting order. He had taken the Titans to the eliminator last season before losing to Mumbai Indians. Gill had scored 650 runs in the last season.
Gujarat Titans started the IPL 2026 season with a loss against Punjab Kings, where the Kings displayed a solid batting performance. They suffered a very close defeat in the next game against the Royals. Titans have started their campaign with two consecutive defeats.
Parthiv Patel updates on Gujarat Titans captain
Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill did not play in his last match against Rajasthan Royals. Assistant coach Parthiv Patel has now issued a statement claiming that the captain was injured, resulting in him missing the game.
However, he has also confirmed that it is nothing serious, and hence, he might be available to her. He also claimed that he should be available for the next match against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Speaking to the host broadcaster, Parthiv Patel said, “Apparently, he had a sprain in his neck earlier and a few days ago also he had a sprain in his neck. Hopefully he will be fit for the upcoming match. It doesn’t look that serious.”
“Injury management is not my strength. But I can tell you for sure that he will be fine,” he said.
Is increasing workload affecting Shubman Gill’s fitness?
Shubman Gill’s workload has already increased since the England series, when he captained India for the first time. Since then, he has taken over as captain of both the Test and ODI teams.
Therefore, he has been a part of every team for India. In recent times, the workload on Shubman Gill has been increasing. Earlier, he had missed the South Africa Test and ODI series due to a similar serious neck injury.
Making a comeback in IPL 2026 against Punjab Kings, the IPL kingpin played a brilliant inning of 39 runs in the opening game. In the second game, he was eventually replaced by Kumar Kushagra in the playing eleven.
Gujarat Titans lost a close match to Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals won the toss and decided to bat first. Royals scored an impressive total of 210 in their 20 overs, with Dhruv Jurel and Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring brilliant half-centuries and playing handy innings of 75 and 55 respectively.
Sai Sudarshan led the GT batting in Gill’s absence. He scored a quick half-century; However, the team started struggling after the left-handed batsman was out for 73 runs. Ravi Bishnoi’s four wickets in the middle overs played a crucial role in the Royals’ comeback.
They struggled with a 43-run partnership for the eighth wicket between Kagiso Rabada and Rashid Khan. While only 11 runs were needed in the last match, Tushar Deshpande’s brilliant over yielded just 5 runs, leading to a 6-run win for Royals.
