The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) has announced a plan to introduce its T20 league during the 2025-26 season. The GCA becomes the latest state body to launch its T20 league, but the Cricket Association is still in the process of finalizing a suitable time slot to host the tournament.

Gujarat Cricket Association set a new T20 league in 2025
According to Cricbuzz, the Gujarat Cricket Association is planning to introduce its T20 league in the 2025-26 season. GCA Secretary Anil Patel confirmed that the decision has been taken, but the details such as the tournament window, format and the number of participating teams have not been finalized.
The report said, “Anil Patel, Secretary, Gujarat Cricket Association, confirmed the decision of Cricbuz. He also said that he has not yet discovered a suitable window for the tournament and also finalized on the number of teams and other details,” read in the report.
State associations like Delhi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Saurashtra have organized a league to show local talent.
Many of these competitions are scheduled to be held in June and July, after the end of the IPL season in May, young cricketers got a timely chance to capture the eyes of top level teams.
State League franchise owners struggle to recover investment
State-level T20 leagues have become a valuable scouting ground for IPL franchisees. However, most of the franchise owners involved in the state league struggle to recover their investment, and it increases concerns about possible malpractices including financial stress betting and match-fixing.
To remove these risks, BCCI has introduced guidelines for state associations. Each league is assigned an anti -corruption officer, and the match venue requires strict safety protocols for the player and official fields.
The state league has limited earning capacity. Without a permanent financial model, these league risk falls. Franchise owners invest local players in scouting and nourish, expecting future stars to develop, but they do not make any financial return to their efforts.
